Geocache Description:


A cache dedicated to the horrible little things that make our skin crawl! For some this will be an easy find, for others an absolute nightmare! Just be careful when you reach into this cache because you don’t know what might be lurking inside…


Parking is available at N53 51.388 W001 15.457 but please be careful as there is limited space and it is on a busy road. If the space is occupied then please do not take any chances and come back another time.

Some interesting creepy-crawly facts:

  • Insects outnumber humans by 250,000 to 1.

  • The world's largest cockroach is 6 inches long with a 12 inch wing span. Don't worry, it lives in South America!

  • Spiders have 48 knees.

  • Ants can lift 20 times their own body weight.

  • Insect blood is normally yellow, although it can vary in different species. The blood does not need to carry oxygen to its cells, and so it does not contain haemoglobin, which is what makes human blood red in colour.

  • All spiders spin silk, but not all make webs. Spider silk is one of the strongest natural fibres in the world.

  • Honeybees have hair on their eyes.

  • Butterflies taste with their hind feet.

  • A snail can sleep for three years.

  • Ants don't sleep.

  • Centipedes always have an uneven pairs of walking legs.

  • Mosquitoes have 47 teeth.

  • The brain of a cockroach is located within its body, so even if it were to lose its head, the roach can survive for 9 days before it would finally die of hunger.

  • An earthworm has the capacity to pull a weight, which exceed 10 times its own body weight.

  • Fleas are known to cover a distance of 30 cm in a single leap - twenty times the length of their own body.

  • Tarantulas can survive without food for more than two years.

  • Queen ants are provided with wings at birth, they lose these wings after they fly off to start new colonies.
