The SQ in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries or memorial gardens. This is a good distinction to put on this type of cache and would like to see it used here in Michigan. Please be respectful of the area, and observe their rules and posted hours, Only visit cemeteries dawn to dusk thru out the state, unless other hours are posted!
This is my 1st SQ hide. I've been wanting to have one to call my own for a while now. I discovered 2 "unused" locations in this area, quite by accident, while checking out a new cache listing nearby. Land for this cemetery, and the 1st catholic church, was donated by George and Elen Quirk in 1865.
This cache is a 3 stage multi. At the 1st stage, you will be visiting some of the Brinker family.
As I wandered around, looking for a good place to start, I came across this spot. After gathering info, my focus re-adjusted, and it was then that I realized the names I was looking at. Made me smile.
At this 1st location, you'll need to answer some questions, based on this group of 4 grave markers.
The coords to the next stage are: N 43 01. A B C, W 083 05. D E F
A = The last digit of the year Leo was born.
B = 2nd digit of the year Mildred died.
C = The last digit of the year Mary was born.
D = The # all the years have in common.
E = 2nd digit of the year M and J were born.
F = The last digit of the year Leo died.
Stage 2 will find you near a tall marker with the name O'Brien. This one caught my eye, as it was the maiden name of a close family member. Then, I spotted a marker a little to the south. I thought it would be fitting. Some old, some new. (Name ends with Jr.) Again, some questions to be answered.
The final is located at: N 43 01. G H I, W 083 05. J K L
G = # of crosses on the plaque.
H = # of letters in the 2nd word of the 2nd line, if it were completely spelled out.
I = # that appears the most on the entire plaque.
J = # of crosses on the plaque.
K = # of letters in the 1st name.
L = # equivalent of the month of birth. i.e. January is #1
Good luck to all who hunt this cache. If you think you can just hunt the final for this cache, I hope you have a LOT of time available! There were SO many good places to hide a final, it was very difficult to choose one. The cache container is only big enough for a log. You'll need your own writing implement. The container is seured in place, and can only be removed about 1 ft from it's hiding spot. This cache should be easily doable all year round.
