The open summit ridge of Kapakapanui provides wonderful 360 degree vistas on a fine day. A trig high point of 1102 metres is not far away.
The track to this wonderous vista is for experienced trampers, and is steep and muddy in places, however well marked.
Wet feet can be expected as there are several unbridged crossings at the start of the trip. Do not attempt to do this track if rivers are in flood, or during heavy rain.
Suitable for people with good fitness, and moderate or better tramping skills and experience. Take clothing and equipment suitable for a remote day trip, and tramping boots are recommended.
The round trip will take between 5 - 7 hours, so take plenty of food and drink.
Expect a challenging day out, and take the opportunity to do the Kapakapanui Loop de Loop caches on the way.
Small cache container includes logbook (one waterproof, one not), bring your own writing implement, pens work best on waterproof paper.
Please recover cache so it is not exposed.
