Snuff Mill Lane is on the outskirts of Cottingham, bordering Hull. There is a small car-park at the end of Bricknell Avenue, just before the turn onto Hull Road, Cottingham. Follow the path up a slight incline (the old railway track) and enjoy the wildlife walk (approximately 0.2 miles).
We saw 2 squirrels as we were finding a decent location (hence the name)as well as butterflies etc and if you carry on the walk towards the Hull-Cottingham railway line after finding the cache, you will come across a small pond full of tadpoles. You may even be tempted into some train-spotting if that's your thing!
Snuff Mill Lane itself is home to a few railway cottages and you can get into Cottingham across the gated railway line. For as long as I remember it has been open fields where I used to come and ride my bike, but a few years ago there was an attempt to make a pond and wetland area. Sadly it has almost dried up, but is still home to tadpoles as well as an old chair....
Hull Grammar School boys used to do cross country runs here when the school was located on Bishop Alcock Road and I know the trees were well used as a place to stop and hide until the teacher was way ahead with the proper runners before they headed back to school.
This is a traditional clip-close box with a log book and pen, as well as a few goodies for the children!
The area seems fairly popular as there were a few dog walkers around, so watch for muggles.
