Geocache Description:

On the banks of the Kaskaskia your best approach would be by the river if river is up - can come by land but it is a rough trek. Expect a water, mud, some thorns and a lot of Wood Nettle. A full size container has plenty of room for swag. Some Disc Golf stuff waiting for the next find!

SUGGESTION - Store the coords in your phone / GPS since there is usually no cell service in this area.

NEW CACHE CONTAINER AND UPDATED LOCATION! I moved the cache inland and up higher to avoid floods and beavers. Now in a full sized ammo box strapped to a tree. The local critters may eat through the strap but I don't think they can get through the ammo box. New cache was placed "by land".

By River: The best start is to put in at the Kaskaskia Gardens near GC2WHGZ (N 39° 07.928 W 088° 58.451 - you might want to make that grab while you are there!) and go UP river 3/4 of a mile or so. Cache was placed with the aid of a kayak, but other light craft will work. Downriver may seem easier, but the nearest launch I can think of is there is 2.5 miles away. Since GPS and cell service is unreliable in this area you may have to get out and get to higher ground to get a good GPS fix.

By Land: This is a pretty rough trek. You have some major bushwhacking through a lot of Wood Nettle which will sting you constantly - even through thick khaki pants. I suggest long pants, full shoes, socks and a long sleeved shirt - no matter what the temperature is. Also I suggest AGAINST taking any cachers under 4' tall since the Wood Nettle get about 4' tall and it will be stinging them in the face! I also suggest a change of clothes after to help alleviate the stings. The underbrush is so thick you may not see logs and holes so watch your footing. It might also be good to get a GPS fix on where you left the car before you go into the tree line so you know where to come back out again. It might be easier to find this in early spring or late fall when the undergrowth is not so thick.

ORIGINAL CACHE WAS MUGGLED BY MOTHER NATURE. Container chewed in half by a critter! (See Spoiler pics) If you use the landing coords you may be able to see the zip ties where the original cache was. That is if the beavers have not fallen the tree yet!

Original FTF got a Sacagawea dollar! Congrats AWANDERER!
