Felt that this location needed a cache for others to enjoy. I spent some of my younger years not to far from here, this place brings back memories.
The Tobique Narrows Dam is a hydroelectric dam built on the Tobique River. It was built between 1951-1953,just several kilometers north of Perth-Andover.
I remember visiting here and watching the Atlantic salmon making there way up through the fish ladder. It was a site to be seen. The Tobique First Nation Maliseet is located here. They used to speer the salmon from the rocks just across on the other side.
There was a story that I heard many years ago of how the river got it's name. It went something like this... When the white man came up the river and wanted to name the river, the indian chief at that time and the white man could not settle on it's name. So they decided to have a foot race between one of his braves and a soldier. They drew a line in the dirt for a starting point. As the 2 lined up the soldier kept putting his foot across the line and the chief would holler- toe back, toe back. Hence the name Tobique. This may be just a story but a good one that I remembered.
I hope you enjoy the view that this area has to offer.
The cache is a camoed small peanut butter jar with a log book, pencil and some small traders. There is a FTF gift to take and enjoy.
Please take time to rehide as well as found.
