Geocache Description:

Early on in my Geocaching career I stumbled across a geocache that was starting to drive me nuts. I had spent a lot of time trying to figure out “An Ode To Brian” – GC1R1JK. I tend to have a lot of obsessive tendencies as my wife can attest. My poor wife had to listen to me obsess and complain about how difficult "An Ode to Brian" was. Half way through talking about this puzzle, my wife stopped me and said that she worked with a Brian who had a wife named Diane. I described Brian and Diane the best that I could from the small picture that I had seen online. My wife laughed and said that it would be funny if it was the same people that we were talking about. As soon as we got home I showed my wife the profile picture. Sure enough, Brian was my wife's co-worker.

I was talking with Brian the next day and, with Brian’s helpful advice, I was back on the trail again. We scheduled a lunch that I secretly planned on paying for. We talked for a solid 90 minutes about Geocaching. (What else would two geocachers do?) Brian even managed to pay for lunch before I had a chance. Free advise and a free lunch, what’s not to like about this kind of geocacher?

Over the next few months, I managed to find that working close to Brian’s office and living close to Brian’s home may not be the perfect situation. Brian has created a lot of devilishly difficult puzzles that just drive me nuts. I have spent many hours searching for answers and trying to figure out what I had missed. I figured that some of these puzzles were going to be the death of me but Brian is always there with a few cryptic words of advise and plenty of encouragement. Now that Brian is retired I have found that his last few puzzles have been a little easier. Is that interesting mind softening in retirement? I expect that he is trying to lull us all into a false sense of security and he will drop his new 5 star killer puzzle onto us soon.

Lets all raise a glass “To Brian”.

The puzzle. Start with this sequence of numbers. 1,2,4,6,10,12,? What is the next number? Take this number and call it B. (Why B? Because B is for Brian) Multiply B by the digital root B. Call this new number D (D is for Diane of course. For many good geocachers out there, there is a totally amazing lady that helps him reach his potential).

The cache is D meters from the posted coordinates at D degrees true North.
