Geocache Description:


Gamoh shrine enshrines Kumpei Gamoh, one of the three unique characters of Kansei-period (Edo era).
Kunpei has been believed as god of study.
There is a pray pillar to improve your study, "If you can throw your pen going through its hole, you will overcome a difficulty."
And there are auestions of mathematics. Please try it.

And this shrine is marginated to the sumo wrestling.
There is a monument of Akashi Shiganosuke who was boarn in Utsunomiya, the legendary first sumo grand champion (YOKOZUNA).
The shrine gate (torii) was dedicated by the famous YOKOZUNA -Tochigi Yama in Taisyo Era.

蒲生神社は，「寛政の三奇人」の一人，宇都宮出身の江戸時代の学者で「前方後円墳」という用語を生み出した「蒲生君平」を祀っており，学問の神様として市民の根強い信仰を集めています。境内には学業向上をお願いする御柱があり，筆記用具を柱の穴に通すと難関を通り抜ける願いが叶うそうです。
また，参道の途中には江戸時代の和算の問題と現代の数学の問題が掲示されていますので，チャレンジしてみてはいかがでしょうか？

また，境内には，宇都宮出身の伝説の初代横綱，日下開山（天下に並ぶ者がいないほど強い）明石志賀之助（あかししがのすけ）の碑と石像が建てられています。明石志賀之助は，身長218cmの巨漢と云われており，相撲協会では初代横綱としていますが，実在したかどうか定かでない伝説的な人物です。
そして，大正の名横綱である栃木山が奉納した一の鳥居があるほか，1991年には千代の富士が土俵入りを奉納したなど，相撲に縁のある神社です。
