How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Cache is located in Freedom Fields Park in Plymouth. It is a tad smaller than a film cannister but very recognisable when you find it!. The park can get quite busy but the location is a bit away from the main activity areas. There is a great community run cafe there too!

The cache is off the main path so wouldn't be very suitable for wheelchair users but is family friendly.

The park origins date back to the celebrations and festival of the local people for the 'Incorporation of the Borough of Plymouth' by Act of Parliament in 1439.

As part of the celebration, mock battles were re-enacted by local youths commemorating the fights which took place between the native people and the invading Bretons.

A second association exists also commemorating the victory during the English Civil War in the mid 1660’s when on the site of the current park the Royalists were defeated by the Parliamentarian forces which led to the end of the siege of Plymouth.
