This is the 1st in a set of three up on Portsdown hill. Take in the fabulous views of the city and the Isle of Wight while enjoying the countryside. A great dog walk or just out for a stroll.
Slopes can get a bit steep in places and there is parking up at the top of the hill just a few minutes walk away or down on the residential Hilsley road.
Not wheelchair friendly but fine for bike or push chair.
This cache is a clip lock container and is able to contain logbook and small swaps and TB's. Contains logbook,pen and some small swaps.
Permission kindly given by Natural England to place this cache.
A little bit of information on the area that you might find interesting....
A chalk escarpment 120m high, with spectacular views across the harbour to the Isle of Wight. The area is also a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
Sunny summer days bring out the butterflies on Portsdown Hill, look out for the Small Heath, Meadow Brown and Common Blue. It’s also home to some rarer varieties including the Chalkhill Blue and the Small Blue.
The chalk hill is also home to a selection of orchids – Bee Orchid, Autumn Lady’s Tresses and Common Spotted Orchid.
No fewer than 29 different species of spider have been recorded on Portsdown Hill!
A wide variety of birds are around to see and hear including the possibility of spotting a Corn Bunting, Lesser Whitethroat or even a Kestrel stalking its prey.
