Geocache Description:

Pentland is a small town with a population of about 400 people, approximately 104km west of Charters Towers and 140km east of Hughenden via the Flinders Highway. It's also at the foot of the Burra Range and White Mountains National Park, which form part of the Great Dividing Range.

Settlement of the region first started in the mid 1850's, gold was discovered in the Cape River in 1867, and by 1884 the town was well established. In later years the timber, cattle and subsequently saw-mill and meatworks industries all operated within the area, and there's still a few local attractions worth visiting including the historic Railway Station, Norwood Lockup, and the nearby Burra Range Lookout.
