Geocache Description:

This small cache is hidden in the far right corner of the very comfortable and spacious Mponjwane Cave which situated on the edge of the Mnweni section of the Drakensberg Escarpment.

The views looking out from the cave are quite incredible and I hope this cache will lure you geocaching hikers up there for a great night or more.

The climbs up the various passes are very heavy going and conditions on the Escarpment change rapidly. Make certain that you have all the necessary hiking info plus the right equipment.

The cache contains a logbook, a pencil and a small token gift.

It was impossible to get an exact fix on the cache due to the cave overhang and the peak above. The cave however is unmistakable.

Interesting to read the original English name for Mponjwane (3177m) was in fact Cathedral Peak.
The mountain we now know as Cathedral Peak (3004m) was the Mponjwane which means ‘ the small horn on a heifer.’ The mistake was made by a government cartographer in the 1800’s and was never corrected.

The Zulu name for the peak is in fact Nthabamabutho which means ‘mountain of warriors’ and perhaps that is what I should have named the cache.
