Geocache Description:

The A.B. Hirschfeld Press building
I'll miss u piccolaaaaa, bacioo

The prominent curved end of the building drivers pass traveling to south bound Broadway from Speer is what remains of the building A.B. Hirschfeld built. A.B. could be called a contender for the greatest baseball fan that ever lived. Sports Illustrated on more than one occasion wrote about the guy that attended every World Series from 1919 to the one prior to his death in 1957. Mr. Hirschfeld placed the new printing press building on what was once known as BroadwayPark and the site of many of the top level baseball games Denverites saw in its era. He and his partners with Mountain Empire Sports started the Denver Bears organization and were also part of the formation of the Denver Bronco AFL team.

"My dad and I went to a couple World Series after 1957 but we didn't continue his streak. The same passion for the sport was not there." says his grandson Barry Hirschfeld who carries the company ( National Hirschfeld) into the next 100 years.

The towering trio of flag poles are original above what was once A.B.'s office and before that the site of home plate. Back then the front door was set to the side of the glass wall that is still surrounded by terracotta tiles that represent the alphabet through the history of print communication. The press moved to its current Smith Road location in 1973 and the Speer location was used for storage. In the 80's Perry Mason used it for its court settings during filming of the TV series. A.B. HIRSCHFELD PRESS remains legible above the clock and below the flags, one of which is of the hotel.
