Savolainen School Forest Cache
Mr. Savolainen was the long time 6th grade teacher of Longville Elementary who began the process of creating a natural outdoor classroom at this property. Remnant Boardwalks run along the bog that skirt Nellie Lake. Explore carefully as they have not been maintained for some time. Interpretive signs at different points were created by his students and others that followed.
Mr. Savolainen was lost too young but the legacy of his teaching in the outdoors has lived on. Although the shores of Nellie Lake have become a little bit quieter with the closing of Longville Elementary school, this place still offers opportunities to learn and explore.
