OHH MY, YOU HAVE......
An Historical Fire Tower on Mount Little Dick. snigger snigger.
This cache is placed near the old Mount Little Dick Fire Tower. It is the most poorly preserved of the 3 remaining wooden / 4 legged fire towers in Victoria. For more information on fire towers see www.firelookoutsdownunder.com or www.firelookouts.org.
However this cache has been more placed for the quirky name of the Mountain. Actually you could tell a rude story using some of the names around here. Especially if you Mount Tara in between Spanker Knob and Stringers Knob (another one of my historical fire tower cache is here). I will stop their in case you start Bucken or heading towards Mount Buggaree.
For those who remember Erwin the weatherman on the ABC, you may be remember him using a replica Little Dick Tower as his pointer.
There are many access roads, but I recommend the Little Dick Range Rd. It leaves the Great Alpine Rd about 1 km north of a stop for the Bruthen walking track. It is a dirt road, but I do not see why a 2wd couldn't make it to the top. The drains are at a good angle so dont believe you will scrape your bottom. Best to park at the fire tower where there is a bbq and walk back down to the cache.
