cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Hovin Kirke

[Norwegian]: (http://www.ullensaker.kirkene.net/index.phtml?pid=1974)

[English]: (http://www.ullensaker.kirkene.net/index.phtml?pid=1974)

Hovin church in 1695 replaced the old stave church built in the 1300s. On 2 October was the old church Hovin used last time, and 1 November, All Saints Day, the new Hovin church consecrated by Bishop Dr Hans Rossing, father of former priest Thomas Rossing.

The portal to the church is a treasure from the Middle Ages. We know that it was there in the 1300s.

The church is built as a cruciform church with a barrel vault. The altarpiece is a gift from Lt. Rasmus Hansen from 1675. It was originally located in the stave church. It was unpainted the first 50 years. It is in the baroque, the floral decorations, and angelheads as capitals. On top is the orb. In the upper field is painted Jesus on the cross. In the lower field is probably the painter intended to render the Eucharist, but this field is unpainted. The crucifix that now have a place in the field, is a gift from a merchant Godtaas probably originated in Oberammergau. The altarpiece was painted in the Enlightenment, but in 1922 it was restored and brought back to its original color from 1732.

The pulpit is from 1675 and had his first pole position in the church. It is cut by the same sculptor who created the pulpit, altarpiece and the baptismal font in the Holter church. It is a typical piece of baroque art. Niches are designed for decoration, but it never materialized. It was painted at the same time as the altarpiece in 1732.

The font is probably the one that was made new to the church in 1637, and cost 7 dollars. It is designed as an hourglass, and will remind you that life's day slowly but surely running out. The simple wooden coffins which is iron sheathed is a gem. It is the oldest object in the church, and originates from the Middle Ages. Rossing pastor described it in 1695 as "very old" and the
