On The Farm :: Gower View Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Eclectic Penguin: Tome to go. It was a big cache so it couldn't have been missed by so many so I'm archiving to allow someone else to place a cache in this area.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The cache container is a large container - use your Geosenses at Ground Zero and it'll soon be in your hands! Please replace well hidden. Dogs are allowed in the nearby camp site, but since this field is regularly used to keep livestock, unfortunately no dogs are allowed in the field in which the cache is hidden.

The Cache

The cache itself should be a relatively straight forward find - the coordinates will bring you to the approximate location of the cache. Use your common sense and the cache will soon be in your hands.

A public footpath runs through the middle of this field - permission is given to wonder slightly off the path to the cache location by the field owners, so don't feel shy in looking for this cache!

Since the field is regularly used to house livestock (cows or sheep, depending on the season), please replace the container carefully.

The cache is placed with the kind permission of the land owner who is aware of its location near this public right of way.

This cache was originally published along with another nearby cache (GC2Y9A3 now archived), to coencide with the 2011 camping event and went live when there were roughly 500 geocachers in the next field, about half way through the event... The logs are worth reading!

Kennextone Farmhouse

Today, Kennextone Camping and Caravan Park is a popular caravan and camping site on the Gower and is the official camping site for the 2011 Mega Wales Geocaching event. The farm itself however is also a working farm has had a very interesting history.

The current farm house is a relatively recent addition having been built in 1939. The original farm house however dated back to 1610 and was considered a valuable historic building, being a fine example of the old Welsh Long House style of building, originally consisted of just a small parlour and a loft room.

This building was donated by its owners to the St Fagans:National History Museum and in 1951 painstaking work to dismantle the original farmhouse brick by brick was undertaken. By 1955, the building had been re-erected in the museum and today forms one of its key exhibits.
