There is definitely no need to cross any fences or trample any plants for this one, but you will need to be OK with feeling around in dark places. Watch out for creepy crawlies - a stick might help! You don't need to leave the obvious path.
Blue Gum High Forest is a unique community of trees, shrubs, grasses and groundcovers that once extensively covered high rainfall areas on the northern side of Sydney. This type of forest can be found growing in the rich deep shale soils of ridges and alluvial flood plains. It is named after the Sydney Blue Gum which is one of the more common trees in the forest, some of which grow to heights of over 30m. It is an endangered ecological community listed under the Threatened Species Conservation Act. By 2001 only around 1% of the original area of Blue Gum High Forest remained.
