Ward Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WrongWayMommy: As the description states, when this cache was first created it was A-Okay to go on up to the cemetery.

"Park at N 48 36.356 and W 118 01.604. There you will see a sign indicating that it's private land but visitors are welcome to walk to the cemetery. Chain the gate behind you so as not to let out any horses, stay to the "trail" until you reach the bottom fence of the cemetery, and be respectful. "

One gate was chained and locked, the other allowed for walking through access with the aforementioned sign stating VISITORS ARE WELCOME.

From the 'needs maintenance' log posted this evening, it appears as though things have changed. Whether due to different livestock now being inside, the insane amount of fires the area had this summer, or a simple change of land ownership. Whatever the reason, it's time to let this one go. It's had a decent run in it's 4+ years of being in existence. Thanks to all who visited this place from the past!

Geocache Description:

Ward Cemetery AKA St Francis Regis Mission Cemetery is located east of Kettle Falls off what is now Highway 395. It was part of the former Jesuit Mission in northwest Stevens County. Ward was a small settlement at St Francis Regis Mission named for Thomas Ward, an early settler. Time has made some of the headstones unlocateable, but this is still filled with some amazing, unique markers and overseen by a beautiful guardian.

Park at N 48 36.356 and W 118 01.604. There you will see a sign indicating that it's private land but visitors are welcome to walk to the cemetery. Chain the gate behind you so as not to let out any horses, stay to the "trail" until you reach the bottom fence of the cemetery, and be respectful. Also note there are signs above requesting you don't feed the horses, so don't. The cache is located just inside the cemetery fence, no need for digging around the beautiful markers. Explore if you like, or not.
