Geocache Description:

This will be a camping event from Saturday to Monday (Labor Day), but anyone is welcome to come for a day or more. The actual event will be a potluck lunch Sunday. I will have my grill available for those who want hotdogs or burgers (bring your own, plus food to share). The rest of the weekend may be scheduled later. Come join us for food, fun and great scenery. There are several caches in the area.
You will need to have a boat, or make arrangements with someone who has one to get to this event (and don't forget life jackets). Kayak and canoe rentals are availble in the area and in many places in the Valley. Please contact me for info on rentals near the event. This event should occur near the posted coordinates, but if that location is taken, the actual coordinates will be posted on the bulletin board near the launch area at the south end of the lake. This area is available on a first-come-first-served basis. The site I am hoping to get is 1 mile by water from the launch area. I have always managed to get this site, when I want it.

I am calling this a "microluau" mosly as a way of describing a small party on an island. I expect the only "pigs" will be in the form of hotdogs. While there will be a semi-Hawai'i theme to the event, please do not feel that you must be limitted to that theme (in attire or food).

There is "dispersed" camping available here, and this island has several campsites,so we shouldn't need to worry about exceding USFS occupancy limits. This is a primative area requiring that everything needed (including drinking water) be brought in, and removed when leaving. I own a small chemical toilet, and I would suggest that some of those coming to camp should consider bringing more.

There is a primitive launch area for small boats. No motors are allowed on Utica Reservoir, but they are are allowed on nearby Union Reservoir with a 5MPH speed limit.

Some suggestions to bring along for the trip:
Food to share, your prefered beverages, sun screen, insect repellant, folding chairs (or expect that you might sit on the ground), floating transport. At this altitude, expect that it could be either hot or cold, and dress appropriately.

A California campfire permit is required to use camp stoves, as well as fires: this can be obtained at the USFS station in Hathaway Pines, or from CalFire or USFS through most of the state (and some out of state). Last week, The USFS anounced that campfire restrictions are now in affect. I'm not sure that this applies to us, but we might want to plan to forego campfires anyway.

No guarantees, but I am open to suggestions. More details will be posted as they become available. We might want to set up themed campsites. I wiil also entertain optional meal sharing ideas for the rest of the weekend.

There may be a fee of up to $8 per vehicle per night, but as of 30 July, this has not been implemented.
