A Kid Friendly Large Ammo Can. Located on the Richmond & Danville Rail-Trail. A short 850 foot walk from Shawnee Rd. parking lot. A 1.7 mile walk from Ringgold Depot Rd. parking lot. A 3.3 mile walk from Hackberry Rd.(Kerns Church Road) parking lot.
This trail was opened in January 2001. It travels past farmlands and through light woods, providing a flat route for a walk or bike ride in the rural Virginia countryside on the outskirts of Danville. For the shortest trip to this cache, start at the Shawnee Rd. parking lot. The ride/walk is comfortable for bicyclists or walkers of all ages. For those looking for evidence of the trail's railroading past, the western trail-head houses a restored railroad depot and an old red caboose. Two miles east of the Depot is the beautiful five arch stone trestle.(Mile Marker 2.0)
