Welcome to Maple View Mennonite Church where we have hidden a regular-size plastic container close to the resting places of five generations of our family. This church and its cemetery wonderfully exemplify the conservative traditions and values of our ancestors and their dynamic visions for the future of this congregation.
Maple View Mennonite Church began in 1859 as the Wellesley Amish Mennonite community who met in homes until 1867 when the first meetinghouse was built on the site for funeral use only. Sunday services eventually were held at this meetinghouse which stood there until 1928, when a newer structure was built. Other nearby Amish/Mennonite places of worship which started as offshoots of this congregation are the local Old Order Amish community, Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, Poole Mennonite Church, and Faith Mennonite Church. Recently, the 1928 building was razed due to structural concerns and the new Maple View Mennonite Church has risen to replace it. The old sheds for horses and buggies on the west side are now gone and the new church building takes their place.
Please visit here during regular daylight hours, and don’t be afraid to take a look inside the new building, if it is open. Congratulations to the congregation for their vision of the future in an historic place.
The cache contains a log, pencil, pen, TB and assorted pins, coins and souvenirs of our travels, as well as a first to find reward redeemable at a coffee shop.
Please return the container to exactly where it was found and lodge it firmly in place. Then enjoy the peace and tranquility of a beautiful Ontario cemetery.
