Good Hope Standard Church
(1914 - present)
Further settlement and consolidation of
community life was taking place during the early 1900s in the Good
Hope District. There were lengthy discussions about the name of the
new district, and the name 'Good Hope' won by a small majority over
'Sunny Slope'.
Presbyterian and Methodist services were held
in the old log school at Good Hope. When the log school was burned
down in 1909, a new structure was built half a mile south of the
original location. The school remained in use for about 40 years
until centralization of the school system when the Good Hope School
became the Good Hope Community Hall.
A church was built in 1914 northwest of the
Good Hope corner under supervision of Reverend Carson. The Good
Hope congregation continued after Church Union in 1925 until it
amalgamated with Partridge Hill. Another religious movement was
associated with Good Hope, the Holiness Movement Church which was
later known as the Standard Church. The church held regular
services into the 1970s but is currently only use on special
occasions.
The Community Hall and original school
are east of the church.
