Note: As of July 2018, the small church has closed and it is now a private home.
This is a pioneer active cemetery located in the hamlet of Foot’s Bay. You will see names like Woodroffe, Lusk, Gostick , McDonald and Thompson (my parents). Foot’s Bay is still home to many of these families today. The Foot’s Bay United Church (1897) has a few services in the summer months only. Winter services are conducted in at the MacTier United Church. Foot’s Bay, the body of water, is located on the south-western extremity of Lake Joseph and named for Captain Hamilton Foote, A Lake Joseph steamship captain. Foot’s Bay began to change in the 1890s, when steamships began making regular calls to Lake Joseph. Around 1906, Charles Woodroffe started a sawmill and the Northern Railway built a small station at Foot’s Bay. This cache is dedicated to my parents who instilled in me a love for nature and Muskoka. Please remember to be respectful of your surroundings and please enjoy the solitude of the area. The original cache contains a TB and a prize for the FTF. ENJOY!
