Geocache Description:

This is a drive-by cache or a nice little hike. Take the road to Comares and park the car in the lot on the right hand site just before the children’s play area (Coordinates N36 50.878 W004 14.855). Walk part way up the hill and at the second big blue garage door on the right start following the signs that say “Fuente de la Gorda..Blue Route”. It’s a nice approximately one mile hike to the fountain or you can drive your car.

In the old days the women of Comares went down with water vessels (jugs or jars) to collect water for the household. The water from this well has a distinctive taste, owing to its hardness. The well also served as a resting place and water trough for livestock. Nearby are the cliffs of Fuente Gorda, complete with steps to make the ascent easier. There are several caves in the area, such as the Window Cave (Cueva de la Ventana). Arabian archaeology can be found in the form of a carved limestone pillar sculptured by ancient stonemasons or Arabian stonecutters. Further along the trail is the Fuente Delgada, so called because of its fine water quality. Next to this is an Arabian water storage tank of historical importance. Continuing on, we reach the road that leads us back to the centre of Comares.
