This is one of a number of caches we're setting around Gosforth, showing how it has changed over the last 100 or so years.
Newcastle racecourse relocated from the Town Moor to its current location at Gosforth Park in 1882. At the time there was no transport link to the races, with the tram system going no further than Gosforth High Street. In the early 1900s the Gosforth Park Light Railway extended the line through to the park gates and later onwards towards Killingworth.

Although the line was discontinued and dismantled in the 1930's, the line of the track is still evident today through the park, no more so than in this location by the tram bridge, where the bases of the tram posts which held the power lines are still visible along the route.
The cache is in two stages. The first is a micro, which will give you the coordinates to the final location (a small container) which can be found a short distance away.
Note: as of August 2025 there are fenced off areas where it seems invasive Japanese Knotweed is in the area. Neither parts of the cache are within these fenced areas.
You can park on Loverose Way, or in the Race-course area (avoid on race days!)
