Black Bolt is the king of the Inhumans' Royal Family. The Inhumans are a group of superbeings who share a common ancestry with humans, but who diverged from humanity's path some 25,000 years ago. At that time, they were experimented upon by the alien Kree. The Inhumans are subject to a mutating chemical called Terrigen - each member of their community was allowed to pass through "the Terrigen Mists" if he or she so desired. The Mists could give them incredible abilities, but it also had the potential to radically alter their appearance. Black Bolt's power comes from his voice. His "quasi-sonic scream" is made possible by electron energy and can unleash incredible destructive force - so, for the most part, Black Bolt is silent. His power has subtler manifestations: it makes him strong, allows him to fly and unleash energy bolts and gives him the ability to analyze and manipulate matter. The tuning fork on his forehead is designed to help him control his abilities. He is married to Medusa, and is cousin to Crystal - both Inhuman women have, at times, worked alongside the Fantastic Four.
