Located on the east side of the Fox River in OTTO Park, adjacent to OTTO Engineering Co. in downtown Carpentersville.
The Illinois Iron & Bolt Company was established in 1864 making it one of the oldest manufacturing companies in the Fox River Valley. In 1868, Julius Angelo Carpenter acquired the facility and later acquired the nearby Star Manufacturing Company. The two factories produced equipment such as farm machinery and agricultural implements, wagon skeins, sad irons, copying presses, seat springs, lawn or garden vases, and other ornamental iron products. Carpenter persuaded the Chicago & North Western Railroad to extend its tracks from East Dundee to this area and built an iron bridge with his own funds to accommodate the rail line. By 1912 Carpenter's two companies employed 2,000 people. Star Manufacturing remained in Carpentersville until 1977. Today OTTO Engineering Co. owns and operates the factory and makes communication and control devices.
Update 6/2013: Cache has been moved and now a different hide style (but the hint still works). Please re-hide well. It's a high-muggle zone. Not sure how long it will last, but here's hoping.
