The Cache
The cache is a small tablock box, it contains a log and pencil and a few swaps(not the pencil).
I have placed this cache here as the view across the Sperrins from this point is rather picturesque. It's really a cache and dash, but do stop to take in the view, you should only hear the sound of nature. This road has very little traffic and therefore, with care, is wheelchair friendly, but assistance will be needed to retrieve the cache.
There is room at GZ for a car to park, but further along I have included an A.W. for parking at a cattle grid, which is a good spot for the tea, or a safe place to park should you wish to explore the area further. You are standing on the Drumard Road as it winds through Straw Mountain. Below is the White Water River, which eventually flows into the Moyola. If you have the time, you can search its banks for a reputed cache of gold, "the gold is hid under a whitethorn tree, along the White Water River" these words were allegedly whispered to a Ballinascreen man by the 18th century notorious reparee Shane Crossagh O’Mullan, as he stood awaiting his fate at the gallows - to cover both banks of the White Water is only a distance of approximately 9 miles!
Nearby off the Cullion Road, on the side of the mountain, is a wind turbine test site, this anemometer has been erected for some time now and plans have been submitted for a windfarm, which if given the go ahead will impact this peaceful location.UPDATE...UNLESS YOU ARE BLIND THE TURBINES ARE IN PLACE
Lough Fea is only a short drive away and a pleasant circular walk awaits you there.
