Geocache Description:

You are searching for a camouflage ammo box on Lancaster NYs "Heritage Trail". Park at the trailhead on Walter Winter drive and hike in from here. This trail is four miles of evenly-graded asphalt and ends at Town Line Road. Some areas might be a little buggy so be prepared. The cache is located a little further off the trail than others in the area but no climbing or crawling required :) Trail opens at dawn, closes at dusk. Find this early to avoid jogger/cyclist traffic.

"The Town of Lancaster "Heritage Trail" is built on four miles of roadbed of the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. This portion of the DL&W was built in 1882 to haul coal from mines in the Lackawanna Valley of Pennsylvania to steel mills near Buffalo. Additionally it hauled grain from Buffalo to the Port of New York. The railroad's passenger service was renowned for fine service and picturesque views. Massive washouts near Elmira New York caused by Hurricane Diane in 1955 took more than a month to repair. Soon after, air and highway competition forced the DL&W to merge with the parallel Erie Railroad in 1960. Operations on this segment of the line ceased after destruction of the Portageville viaduct by Hurricane Agnes in 1972. The Town of Lancaster purchased this property in 1984. A federal grant aided construction of this bike path, opened in October 2010."
-Information taken from trailhead information board.

I placed a log for all visitors to sign (please return the log to the sealed plastic bag and be sure to securely close the top of the ammo can) and some home-made commemorative geocoins with the trail logo on the front, and an image of something nearby where the cache is located on the back. I also included some coins I made with a QR Code on the back. These have the URL of this page encoded for you to log your visit on the trail with your dataphone. Please take one per team and pass them along. There are several caches on this trail and I'd like to get one of my coins in each. The Town of Lancaster did a fantastic job with this trail and this cache is a commemoration of their efforts.

FTF credit goes to "Cayuga Crew"..Great Job!
