Douglas Dam

Douglas Dam is situated adjacent to the Grahamstown
Botanical Gardens and below the impressive Settler's Monument. It
was constructed between 1866 and 1867 to alleviate Grahamstown's
water supply problem, and has a capacity of about 35,000
kilolitres. It was named after Sir Percy Douglas,
Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape of Good Hope at the time of its
construction. This is the same Percy Douglas after which the town
Douglas in the Northern Cape was named after.
To get to the cache, turn off Grey Street at the
waypoint indicated below and proceed to a logical parking spot.
Take note that the road there is terribly potholed - my
little Daewoo Matiz managed to get there, but not without a bump or
two to the chassis, so you may wish to park near the gate and walk
all the way to the cache. As always, be aware of your
surroundings.
