Geocache Description:

As a high school Math teacher of 25 years, I've spent my share of time teaching students how to solve equations, including quadratic equations like the one associated with this cache. A quadratic equation is an equation that can have up to two roots (or solutions - numbers that when put in place of the variable would make the equation true). Solving quadratic equations (equations which can have up to two roots) typically give students two choices of methods: factoring an expression or using the quadratic formula. Quadratic equations have a lot of real world applications, but I doubt that any list of these applications would include finding a geocache - maybe until now.

OK, it's time for class! Here's your assignment - find both roots of this quadratic equation:

The lesser of the two roots is a three-digit number that you should use as the decimal portion in the North coordinates; the larger root you should use as the decimal portion of the West coordinates.

Class is in session - now go find that cache!

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.
