This cache rests just off a lesser-known by-way from Coalville to the village of Swannington. It is a child friendly cache and would involve a walk of about 1/2 mile to the cache location. It would be a good one for the kids to cycle. We've actually been down here in a jeep so it could be a cache and dash if you have the vehicle to off-road in!
This is our third cache. The A511 joins the M1 at Junction 22 (Markfield) to the A42 at Junction 13 (Ashby). Coalville is about half way between these locations, approximately 5 miles from each.
Stephenson Way (A511) bypasses the town of Coalville. Parking for this cache can be located at one of the world-renouned fast food outlets that can be seen from either side of the road (hence the name of the cache!). We parked at N52 43.994, W001 22.490 as this side doesn't involve crossing the main road. There is no parking nearby on the A511 itself.
From either parking location head up the A511 and almost immediately you will see a public footpath sign for the by-way (signposted By-Way to Swannington 3/4 mile).
We have stocked the cache with lots of goodies, and ask that you bring something decent to swap - there is too much rubbish in caches nowadays. For our part, we will pledge to keep the cache well maintained and well stocked.
In the cache you will find:-
Amore the Bear Travel Bug, attached to a furry raccoon - these want to travel together.
A voodoo doll
A sports watch
Some marbles
Some junior dingbat cards
Some butterflies
An unopened toy
Some keyrings
A bottle opener
A trolley coin
A DVD of Snowdonia
Good luck! Once you have found the cache, you can retrace your steps for a total walk of just under a mile, or you can carry on into Swannington and you'll soon find a pub.
*** CONGRATULATIONS TO BEARBROWN ON A FIRST DAY FTF ***
A good cache in the vicinity is GC25PQ9 "Swannington Incline" where you will find much about the coal mining history of this great town.
