This event has been put
together to celebrate the 11th of November 2011 or
11-11-11.
A social gathering of fellow
geocachers for some food, drink, cache talk and good
company!!
Where: Ironic Cafe
and Bar, 8 Anzac Avenue, Dunedin
(Opposite the Railway Station)
When: 11
November 2011, Time 6:11 pm to 11:11
pm.
Theme: Bring
or wear something related to the number of 11. What you do is
entirely up to you. You could even shave 11 in your eyebrows like
Jonah Lomu. There might even be a prize for the most creative
attendee.
Special:
This will be a Multi-Event held on the same day as other 11-11-11
events around the world including two others in New Zealand.
We will have available a special Dunedin only
geocoin to commemorate the event.
The
Coin
Description:
The coin is predominately bare metal with an antique bronze finish.
This relates to the medals of the period. The metal finish also
relates to the brasswork, including bullet and shell cases, that
were part of a soldiers lot during the war. Blue and gold are the
colours of Otago, the blue linking both sides of the coin. The gold
celebrates the gold rush era where much of Dunedin's early wealth
came from. The jade centre and outer ring on the back celebrate the
"Pounamu" or greenstone which is only found in the South Island of
New Zealand. Te Wahi Pounamu (The Place of Greenstone) is a
Māori name for the South Island.

This coin will initially only
be available to attendees at the event. The cost of the coin to
attendees will be NZD$15.00. If you wish to purchase a coin please
indicate in the logs.
Judging from past years,
these multi-event geocoins are sought after and very collectible
after the event, so if you want one, take the opportunity to get
one while they are restricted to event participants only. After the
event, these coins will be available for general sale. The Dunedin
event coins will be strictly limited to a minting of just 75 coins.
