Bloopers #1 — Wipeout Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Aiwendil67: After reading a couple of disturbing logs I decided to check on this one. As often happens, the original host had rotted completely away and the container was not in the right place. For some odd reason the baggie that held the log was gone and the paper was soaked. It was indeed a little funky in the container. For these several reasons I've decided to archive this cache. This one has had a great run and I'd like to open up this cool part of the park for other cachers to place a cache in - perhaps in time for all the autumn bonfire attendees to get a new smiley.

This is cache number one in the series "bloopers," a continuously growing chronicle to some of my not-so-brilliant moments. This series is also underscored by a recycled theme, where not only each container is recycled, but also the logbook.

It all started one Saturday in January, a fresh layer of snow had just fallen the night before and it was undergirded by a couple inch deep base that had come down a few days before. This was the perfect formula for a great XC Ski excursion. I loaded the skis into the trusty ol’ van and headed off to one of my favorite preserves. I have been coming to the Hollows since I was so little I can’t remember. It is a great place to cross country ski because they groom the trails after a base of snow and indeed when I arrived it was well groomed/ After signing the sheet at the trailhead I began my trek. There are some great elevation changes that help to maintain speed and my confidence grew in my balance more and more each minute. When I rounded the bend I know so well, I decided to do something I had never done before on my XC’s—go full speed ahead down the hill, yes I knew that that it had an abrupt turn at the end, yes I knew that I was very far back in the park with no cell phone on me… You can imagine the result, I took the biggest wipeout ever. It felt like a triple summersault but of course no one was there to see it. Luckily I wasn’t hurt bad and I got back safely and on my own two feet. Always be safe and if you venture to get this cache on XC skis, please be extra careful!
