Dam, I've been shot! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team4G: The container fits the name and there is only one spot it will fit (it was a shotgun shell in the rock wall). We are choosing to archive because the area floods too often and the container gets washed away.
We love the info about the spot so we are leaving it here for anyone interested.
Thank you all who visited. We hope you enjoyed.

Geocache Description:

The title was choosen before researching the history of the dam.
You'll see why the name when you find it.

After Years of driving over the Hamilton St bridge it never occured
to any one of us to look over the side. After finding a cahe in
this area we walked about and ended up under the bridge. "Look, I
never noticed a dam here have you?"

The Lehigh Canal

The Hamilton Street Dam was created to provide a slack water pool
to provide water to this (dam #7) section of the Lehigh Canal. The
original dam at this location was of stone and wood crib
construction with a height of 8 feet and was desrtoyed by floods.
You can still see the foundation of the upper end of the guardlock
where a foot bridge allowed the mules and the mule tender to cross
the canal and proceed southward along the towpath located on the
river side of the lock and canal. The original Hamilton St bridge,
also destroyed by floods, was a little south of the present bridge
(ruins can be easily seen from the bridge or opposite bank). The
support columns for the current bridge stand where the lock
tender's house was.

If you click on the link there is more detail and pictures of what
this location used to look like. Hope you enjoy this area and
history as much as the team.

Happy Caching
