Geocache Description:


The Mountain State Forest Festival is the largest and oldest festival in the state of West Virginia and is considered a major homecoming for those individuals who previously lived in the Elkins area. It's also a time when first time visitors, young and old alike, come to the area to participate in the many festival events and activities.

This year's 75th celebration will mark a significant milestone in the history of the festival association and will once again afford us the opportunity to share with our community and state the important role West Virginia's natural resources play in our economic development. Rich in tradition, the festival also plays a significant role in our local and state economy and offers something for everyone to enjoy, such as, the carnival, parades, exhibits, arts and crafts, delicious food, and of course, the Royal Court and coronation of Queen Silvia.

The 75th Mountain State Forest Festival will be held October 1st through October 9th. We hope you plan to attend this year's festivities!

Maid Silvia will be crowned Queen Silvia LXXV on Friday, October 7 at the Davis and Elkins College Amphitheater. The coronation of Queen Silvia is an event full of rich tradition and is a must see event for all Festival goers. The Amphitheater will be transformed overnight to host a Championship Lumberjack Competition on Saturday, October 8.

This is 1 of 5 geocaches of the 75th Moutain State Forest Festival. Each person who finds the caches will have the opportunity to place their name and phone number on a card inside the cache. Geocahing.com users may leave just their name (or handle) on the card. The cards will be collected and a random drawing will be held on September 26, 2011. A winner will be selected from the logs from each cache. The five winners will then be notified of their winnings. Good luck and have fun!
