Geocache Description:

LESSONS IN BECOMING A PIRATE READ, PRACTICE, LEARN AND BRING YOUR SKILLS TO PIRATEMANIA! 17 in a series of 20 BILGING Bilging is the removal of bilge (water) from the hull of a ship. Understandably, ships take on water when at sea, mainly from splashing but also from leakage / seepage. If the water accumulates, it could sink the ship. A surprising amount of water can be taken on board, and it can be a permanent job to "bilge" a ship. The bilge is also the name for the lowest part inside the ship, within the hull itself which is the first place to show signs of leakage. The bilge is often dank and musty, and considered the most filthy, dead space. Silly talk is also called bilge. If a ship is bilged on her anchor, it is holed or pierced by its own anchor. A bilge rat is a rat living in the bilge of a ship. It is considered the lowliest creature by pirates, but many pirates take to eating the animals to survive. Many thanks to Mandarin Lake for placing the original cache.
