A beautiful hike, 5 miles roundtrip, to Beulahland Vista on
SGL#68. The trail is a well maintained grass access road. The
elevation gain is significant so be prepared. The 3.5 terrain
rating is for elevation change and distance.
Our family comes up to this area every 4th of July weekend
to stick our "Hiney in the Piney." We try to get out and enjoy the
trails and see wildlife as much as possible while eating way more
than we should. That's what vacation is for, isn't it?
Last year the wife and I hid a cache on the Black Forest Trail only
to find its in a State Forest. So it sat for a year unpublished and
unfound. (We did remove it this year) Pre-trip I did my homework
and found a large section of completely unused SGL property and
decided to hike out and check it out. Boy glad we did! What a great
area to get away from the rumble and get lost in nature.
We placed a climbing cache down the trail and the family decided it
was time to head back so I went ahead to hide the traditional. It
is an ammo can. After a short while I came upon a beautiful vista,
Bonnell Run Vista. Great view! Decided to continue up the trail out
of curiosity. That is when I came to Beulahland Vista. Another
great view. Decided to drop the cache here and get a 2 for 1 deal
on vistas.
I will warn you that there are bear in the area. As a matter of
fact I almost ran into 1 literally after placing this cache.
Realizing how late it was getting, don't want to miss lunch, I
started to jog back towards the parking. Next thing I know this
Black Bear and I are within 30' of each other. Way too close for
his comfort and mine. Luckily he ran down the hill before I could
totally process what just occured. After catching my breathe and
changing my underwear I continued to the truck. I would advise
going with someone. Preferably someone slower than you just in
case.(Thats a joke)
Hope you enjoy!
