I placed another 11 Illinois Spirit caches that are near old cemeteries in northwest Mercer County. The caches and hides are nothing special, just placed to bring you out to some great old cemeteries you might not know are there. The difficulty for many will be in figuring out how to get to the cemetery.
Shields Cemetery is located about 1/4 mile off the main road and is accessed by a grass/dirt lane between two fields. If you approach from the south, you can see the cemetery off the road. I had no difficulty driving all the way to the cemetery, but depending upon your vehicle and the weather, you may not want to drive in.
Please be respectful while visiting the cemetery and no caching after dark. The cache contains 2 gold dollars, 1 for FTF and 1 for STF. It also contains a bison tube with geocache log for anyone who is inclined to place a cache in the area but doesn't have one on hand. Please bring your own pen - for some, you may want to bring a log extractor.
Great country roads - some blacktop and some gravel. Rarely any muggles and no poison ivy!!
