Back in the mid 1800's this was quite a busy place, Today it is just a crossroads. This area was settled back in 1847 by a gentleman named David D. Davis. He was a storekeeper, farmer, and the postmaster of the area.In 1857 the Post Office became known as Tampico, and in November of that year an 8 block town was platted near here by William Crouch. In it's heyday it is said that Tampico had a store, hotel, school, blacksmith shop, livery, saloon, and several boarding houses. It was situated on the major stage route to California, and due to it being located near Ft Hoskins (1856-1866), Tampico was the hub of activity with a horse racing track, gambling, and Evangelical gatherings. Unfortunately Tampico's aspirations were short lived when Green Berry Smith acquired the land and vacated the town in January of 1860.
