This was formerly the location of the Eveready Battery Company,
Edgewater Plant but not much is left of the original factory. Most
has been torn down to make way for Battery Park, a nice new housing
development on the city's west side. A portion of the building was
left for nostalgic purposes, which is better than nothing at all.
From the outside, this shell of a building doesn't look like much.
All machinery and fixtures have been completely removed from the
few rooms that remain, even the roof has been removed. What keeps
this building interesting is the huge smokestack and the incredible
basement that is full of small corridors and passages.
The historic Eveready Powerhouse, which is located on the
Battery Park premises, with its landmark smokestack, is currently
being renovated and converted into a new 5,000+/- square foot
restaurant, 2,200+/- square foot market/deli and 2,400+/- square
foot community meeting place and fitness center.
