Some land along the river was not suitable for farming. This piece
was declared "Swamp Land" and was retained by the state until
peoples' interest picked up for land that abutted the river. This
piece has a special interest to us because it is the site of an
abandoned oil well. Our seven acres was part of the land that was
included in the drilling rights for this well. The income we
received from this well allowed us to get our kids through college
pretty much debt free.
The life of this well was not very long and it ceased production
more than twenty years ago. After pulling out their equipment, the
oil company planted the ground here in Russian Olives and abandoned
the access road.
We love to go Geocaching. We really appreciate the effort folks
put in to provide caches for us to find and we hope you do too. To
make it the best possible experience for everyone, we ask you to do
a couple of things for us; if you want to take some stash, please
trade even, if you don't have anything to trade but want to take
something anyway, just take it. Leave the pebbles, bottle caps,
used theater tickets, etc. in your pocket. Then, would you please
take a couple of minutes to replace the cache where it was and
cover it at least as well as when you found it. Thanks.
