This is the popular central park visited by locals and tourists daily. So you will need to use much stealth, but you can pretend to be sitting on this ledge and discreetly lean a little to grab it. It is only covered with a few leaves under the ledge and will probably appear as trash and not be bothered if exposed some by wind etc. I started it with 1 Lempira (Honduran money worth only $.05 and $1, worth 20 Lempiras.
Congrats to Hipointer and Capiti for FTF!!! And thanks for your help in getting this one operational!!! Thanks also to Trifiniotours for checking on the original cache placement which must have gone missing. I hope he is going to put more geocaches around the Ruinas de Copan area, which will bring more people to this wonderful, quaint village to geocache and endulge in the many local activities!!!
If you get the $1 that was originally placed, you can buy a little trinket at the nearby vendor tables, but if you take the 1 Lempira, consider it a souvenir because you can't buy much with it!! We have been coming here to Ruinas de Copan for 4 years now to learn Spanish at one of the local schools. So, I decided it was time to put a geocache here!!! Although I won't be able to maintain it but once a year, I can get a local friend to maintain it if it gets muggled. I didn't think there was many, if any, geocaches in Honduras, but much to my surprise I found that there is one in San Pedro Sula, which is where we fly in and out of. So I decided that maybe on our way to the airport we could grab this one:) But after reading the most recent log, which the guy stated that after seeing it had not been found for 2 years, he was determined to find it. After he hiked to it for an hour, he spent the next hour digging around under trees (as the clue had stated) and to his bliss finally found it, but at no small cost. He displayed pictures of his pants torn by thorny vines, his hands bleeding from thorn scrapes, and 2 large bug bites on his shoulder, which he later described in detail that after a couple of days the skin blackened around this bite and swole up so that he popped it, and out came a live larvae!!!! GROSS ME OUT!!! After seeing all this, I decided there was no way I was gonna try for this one!!! So that's when I decided that I would put an easier one in Honduras in a very tranquil, pleasant place, where you don't have to hike for an hour in the sweltering heat, there are no strange bugs to defend yourself against, and no scars left on your hands after digging around for the cache. So I hope you don't mind that this Gringa has put an easy cache, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee at a local cafe, there's no sweltering heat, as the elevation here is around 1500-1800'. You can do a little inexpensive souvenir shopping at the tables and spend your dollar on an array of many beautiful necklaces, bracelets, or earrings. While you are there, visit the beautiful Mayan Ruins that you can find all around the area, the many delicious restaurants and cafes, and say "Hola" to "mis amigos"!!!Adios amigos!!! Hasta luego!!!
P.S. I only had my Iphone for the coordinates, showing 32' accuracy, so if you get a better reading with your GPS, please feel free to post it!! Thanks
