The Dreamer Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

DeaconsArmy: Well, it was fun while it lasted, but it looks like this one has been muggled! Since we now live much farther away and can't maintain the cache effectively, we've decided to archive this one and free the space up for a new cache.

Thanks to everyone who signed the log; it was wonderful to see so many visitors! We hope you enjoyed the sculpture and the park!

Geocache Description:

This cache is the first in the series "Art in the City" which showcases beautiful works of art displayed openly in the city.

This sculpture is located in Pettygrove Park and was sculpted by Manuel Izquierdo in 1979 of surplus navy bronze that he bought and cleaned. The artist states that his design of a reclining woman "speaks of hope, of beauty and serenity, of love, and for a better life in our midst” The sculpture is filled with foam so that falling rain makes a gentle sound like a kettledrum instead of ringing hollow.

The fountain beneath the sculpture is currently undergoing restoration so there is no water, but the work does not impact the cache or use of the park.

The park features several small grassy hills, lots of shaded benches and plenty of open space. Several shaded pedestrian walks branch out from the park in different directions. If you follow the path southwest you'll end up at the Lovejoy Fountain, the spot where Asa Lovejoy lost the bet for naming the city of Portland to Francis Pettygrove.

The cache is a small, plastic official geocache container sealed in a black plastic bag. It's moderately-high difficulty rating is due to VERY HIGH muggle activity during the weekdays. If you attempt to reach this cache on a weekday it will require extreme stealth. There is much less traffic on the weekends and should be much easier to access then, although there are permanent muggle settlements very close by. The park is wheelchair accessible, but the cache is just out of wheelchair reach, thus the 1.5 terrain rating. There may be some GPS bounce right near GZ due to the tall buildings near the park; if you get better coordinates, please update! Please use stealth when replacing the cache!

For the FTF is a blue sapphire gemstone specimen. Also inside is a small blue heart-shaped tin with a 2 Euro coin inside, a log book and pencil.

Congratulations northwesttreehugger for FTF!
