I was raised in the village and although I no longer live there, I
still have lots of family members that do. “Songbird of
Miloli’i” is one of them. I have picked up geocaching
and thought this would be a pretty good spot to share with fellow
cachers wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the
crowded beach. The cache is a small white bottle with a pencil and
log sheet.
This is one of
the few public black sand beaches left on the Island of Hawaii that
was not covered by the active volcano. The hike to the beach is
approximately 1 mile over a rocky path. The local residents often
use the path so it’s pretty identifiable, but I have marked
check points to keep you on track. You will pass private property
signs, so stay on the trail. I would recommend taking water, sun
screen, and good walking shoes for the trail. My daughter 7 did
just fine. Please respect the land and beach. What you pack in,
please pack out. Parking at the park is free, but please lock your
doors and do not leave valuables visible. The villagers may look at
you with a stare, but if you’re friendly and say Aloha,
you’re ok.Congratulations to Wholagal for the FTF!
