This cache is placed near the Slater sign. Permission was granted by Slater City Hall City Administrator and property owner of land the sign and driveway is located on. Please pull in the driveway behind sign and don't block the drive. Ground is fairly level until the last few feet. Please place back as found. Should be muggle free, but as always use some stealth.
Welcome to Slater, MO aka "The Boyhood Home" of Steve McQueen.
In 1933 McQueen and his grandparents moved in with his grandmother's brother Claude on his farm near Slater. McQueen lived with his uncle until age 8, when his mother took him back with her to Indiana. A couple years later when his mother was unable to control his behavior, McQueen was sent back to his Uncle Claude's until he was 14. This is when McQueen left his Uncle's home without saying goodbye and joining the circus.
As we all know, McQueen went on to be one of the biggest movie stars of the 60's and 70's.
Every year in the spring, The City of Slater hosts Steve McQueen Days with festivities celebrating Steve's life and his rural Missouri roots.
This sign is a great place to take picture's. If you do take some pics and feel like putting them in your log along with your city and state, please do so, as the City Hall folks like to see where people are visiting from.
Cache is a lock and lock container that contains swag and a log book and writing utensil.
