Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches based around our old haunts.

The Ex-Shanklin 'Girls' (The Nickster (N), and Mum (H) of SPO and Mum), having been friends for 40 years (50 years in spring 2021!), placed some caches to celebrate.

We attended the nearby school from 1979-1982, when it was called Sandown High.

It became Sandown Bay Academy in 2011, and is now The Bay CE School.

Near the cache site you can just about see the West Block - where H & N studied.

If you also went there, please tell us in your logs, and we'd love to see any photos of you (the dafter the better!) from that period, on the cache gallery.

The cache is close to a bridleway (often muddy!), on the site of what is believed to be stables in which the beach donkeys used to live.

If approaching from the north, be very careful crossing the golf course and stick to the marked footpath.

Parking is available on Lake Green Road (see additional waypoint), but it's a quiet residential area so please be considerate.

In order to claim the Nostalgia - Bonus cache (GC3HT2J) you need to find (nearly) all 13 of the other Nostalgia caches and make a note of the letters and numbers from their log books and/or cache containers.

If completing this series as a circular walk, we suggest the following caches next:

Clockwise; GC36V1Y Nostalgia - Battery Gardens.  Walk south to the end of Lake Common and turn E along public footpath SS29 signposted The Fairway.  Keep going (over 3 roads) until you get to the railway line.  Use the crossing (carefully!) and turn right into Los Altos park, heading SE and up the hill (great for sledging!), past the old reservoir to emerge in The Heights car park.  Use the pelican crossing at the main road.

Anti-clockwise; GC301RX Nostalgia - Lake Middle.  If you fancy some plane spotting, a slightly longer but much nicer route is to detour W then SW along footpaths to the SE edge of the IOW airport ‘runway’.  From there, head SW then SE along the footpaths.  Otherwise, the shorter (but less interesting) route is to head south then find public footpath SS27 ‘Lea Road & Blackpan’ and continue past the cemetery and playground then W along Manor Road.

Congratulations to Bouton (aka Lavender LatLongers) on the FTF.
