Fredrick and Maglelena Raynolds married in 1880. He was already the owner of several banks. Two of their seven children died terrible deaths, as toddlers. They are memorialized with Margaret (Margarette) Park and the stained glass window in the First Presbyterian church. The child sitting on Jesus lap in that beautiful window is their children. That impressive building was built almost solely with funds from the Raynolds family.
Mr Raynolds died in 1906 leaving her President of seven banks. The first in the nation. In 1907, when Royal Gorge Park was secured from the government Magdalena deeded to the city, without compensation, 40 acres of highly picturesque and valuable land all along the rim in order that the public may enjoy the Royal Gorge and its surroundings.
Raynolds Ave is the street named for this family.
This park is named for Magdalene Raynolds, first woman bank president in the united States. An unheard of accomplishment in that day.
