Geocache Description:

A quick tour of some of the non-school cricket fields in Port Alfred.

FTF goes to iNokia, the second time he has FTFed 4 of our caches in a day!

Please note that the cache is not at the listed coordinates. The listed coordinates are for the turnoff to Stage 2. Incidentally, if you stop at this point at low tide you may see part of a shipwreck sticking out of the water. Just off the bouy for the water intake pipe.

This trip can be done in any order and will take you to four cricket fields that are used during the annual Pineapple Tournament. The Pineapple Tournament is the longest running cricket tournament in South Africa. The first tournament was held in 1904 and involved all the local pineapple farmers. While the farming in the area may have changed, the name of the tournament has stuck. Every year between the first and second weekends in March, approximately 20 teams in three leagues play a round robin tournament. The competition is fierce and the first league final is held at the final cache location on the second Saturday in March. If you find yourselves in the area; pop in for a beer and some great local cricket.

A fine clip off the pads.                     Manley Flats CC with the Tournament trophy.

In order to locate this cache, you need too collect a specific clue from each of the three fields you will visit. Solve the formula below and then go searching.

The cache is a small (100ml) lock'n'lock with space for a few small tradeable items.

Air School Field (Stage 1) - Turn off the R67 at the road marked 43 Air School, from there your GPS will lead you to the field. To the south you will see several red brick buildings. These are part of the TB hospital. Each building has the same letter painted on it. What is the numerical value of this letter if A=1; B=2 etc. (x = ___)

Hilpert Field (Stage 2) - Turn onto the dirt road at the listed co-ords, follow your GPS to the field. How many telephone poles are there on the eastern edge of the field. (y = ___)

Hospital Field (Stage 3) - Turn off the R72 at the Port Alfred Hospital, follow your GOS to the field. You will find two phone numbers on the scoreboard. What is the 8th digit of the second (cell) number? (z = ___)

Final coordinates:
S  33 35.[y*2][z+2][(x/z)+2]
E 026 52.[x-z][z-y]
